ITS PROGRAMS – HOSPITALITY TECHNICIAN

The Objectives

The goal of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to acquire the competencies required to perform the activities described below:

  • Integrating and interacting with life on board
  • Follow the rules that govern life on board
  • Communicate in English and any other languages required for the role while on board, in order to enable an independent and effective approach to various interpersonal contexts
  • Applying professional techniques related to the role and recognize and manage the company procedures associated with it
  • Ensuring Effective Communication in Face-to-Face Interactions
  • Working as a team
  • Recognizing Different Cultural Perspectives and Creating Value Through Differences
  • Respond to emergency situations involving fire prevention and fire suppression on board, and apply survival and rescue techniques in accordance with international standards

Intended Audience

This program is intended for those who hold a five-year high school diploma, as listed under “Requirements.”

Note:Candidates who obtained the required degree abroad must provide proof of equivalence (issued by the Italian Ministry of Education) or a "Dichiarazione di valore" (issued by the Italian Diplomatic or Consular Authority in their Country of origin).

Duration

The program lasts two years.

Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 as of the deadline for the Notice;
  • Citizens of the European Union;
  • Five-year high school diploma;
  • Good knowledge of the Italian language;
  • Good knowledge of English (Level B2);
  • Good knowledge of two other languages, chosen from German, French, and Spanish

Note: Candidates who obtained the required degree abroad must provide proof of equivalency (issued by MIUR—the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research) or a certificate of academic standing (issued by the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin).

Career Opportunities

This professional role is primarily found in the maritime transport sector, specifically with shipping companies that require such a position on board. Alternatively, there are also employment opportunities in land-based facilities within the restaurant and hospitality industry or in the skilled trades.

THE PROFESSIONAL ROLE

HOSPITALITY SERVICE SPECIALIST

This position is based on board the cruise ship in the reception area, where the employee is responsible for effectively assisting guests, communicating in various languages, and using the available devices.

For this reason, the course is designed for people who are highly motivated to work on board, have a knack for working with and for others, and will be trained to perform their roles on board by instructors specialized in each relevant area—allowing them to “experience life on board” right from the classroom.
