The course is designed to provide an intensive training program, based on technical subjects, aimed at equipping graduates in any discipline with the skills necessary to pursue a career as a ship’s officer, both on deck and in the engine room, as required by the MIT Decree of December 19, 2016.
The Objectives
Intended Audience
It is intended for those who hold a five-year diploma other than one in the nautical field.
Duration
- 700 hours (approximately 5 months) for the COPERTA section
- 800 hours (approximately 6 months) for the MACHINE section
Requirements
- Must be of legal age at the time of enrollment
- Five-Year High School Diploma
- EU Citizenship.
Career Opportunities
Upon graduation, students becomeDeck or Engine Officer Cadets, depending on the option chosen by the cadet. Upon completion of the course, and after passing an exam, students obtain full and recognized equivalence of their academic qualification—with no career limitations—to that of graduates of the former Nautical Institutes. This equivalence fulfills the necessary requirements to participate in the selection process for the ITS Deck and Engine Technology program.
